A light-skinned grape variety for red wine that withstands drought very well. This grape (also written as Cinsault) is widely planted throughout southern France and Corsica. It has also been important in North and South Africa. In South Africa it is most famous as a parent of its special grape variety Pinotage. The variety with its light skin and soft perfume is particularly suitable for rosés. One can taste and smell ripe blue fruit, nuts and spices in the wines that are mostly used to blend and so soften and add perfume and fruit to the final blend.
